Got a best friend?—time to give back.|Syracuse, NY photographer
UPDATE!! I AM SO HAPPY TO SAY THAT ALL OF THE SLOTS ARE BOOKED UP. THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO CONTACTED ME AND DONATED. I AM SUPER PROUD. ALMOST EVERYONE WHO CONTACTED ME HAS ALREADY MADE THEIR DONATION. IF YOU HAVEN’T YET DONE THAT PLEASE DO.
EVERYONE WILL GET AN EMAIL TOMORROW(THE 29TH) WITH THEIR TIME SLOT AND DAY FOR THEIR SESSION.
I am starting something new today and I am really excited about it.
It is the first annual Best Friend portrait project and fundraiser. During the month of April I will be doing portraits of best friends and raising money for Susan G. Komen CNY Race for the Cure.
To be selected just send me an email or a message on Facebook. My email address is gfridley@gmail.com, and just look to the left to see my Facebook page. I will select the first 30 people to contact me—and I really hope to get 30 of you.
Please, please, please read the the next few paragraphs before you contact me. I want to make sure you understand the guidelines and that you have all the info you’ll need.
What is the Best Friends Portrait Project?
During the month of April I will conduct 30 mini best friends sessions outside at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY. For these sessions there will be no cost, but I do expect you to donate $25 to my Race for the Cure Page, or join my Race for the Cure Team, “A Cure of Bust”. To learn all about the Race for the Cure and how it is helping in the fight against breast cancer please visit my fund raising page HERE. To read more about the amazing team that I am a part of go HERE. I joined this team last year even though I wasn’t actually able to be there. I will be there this year with my camera and would love to see you there too.
Guidelines
-I can’t pick you if you don’t contact me—so don’t hesitate—send me an email or Facebook me today.
-I want to do something different with this project–something I don’t normally photograph, so your best friend can’t be your spouse or boyfriend.
Your best friend can be:
1. your sister or brother (only if you are over 18–I photograph lots of kid siblings already and most of them are not best friends yet)
2. your mom or dad (mother’s day is coming up)
3. your best friend who is not family (any age!–great fun for tweens or kids as well).
4. your pet!!
5. your aunt, uncle, teacher, co-worker, grandma, grandpa
When are the sessions?
The sessions will be on these four dates:
April 1st between ( 1:30-2:30)
April 2nd between (3:30pm-5pm)
April 5th (5:30-6:30)
April 20th (4:30-6pm)
Each session will last about 10 min. When you contact me please tell me if you have a preferred day for your session.
Some answers to some questions you might have.
What do I get out of it?
In addition to feeling great about donating to a good cause, you will get a professional, fun portrait with one of the most important people in your life–and probably someone that you don’t have many portraits with. I will also email you web and print size files from our mini session (up to 5 files for each friend). *prints are available to purchase if you like, but the files are yours to upload to Facebook, print, frame and treasure forever and ever. I will even do casual headshots during our mini session if you request.
Can I include more than one best friend?
Sorry, due to the short sessions I am going to make you pick one special person to bring along. I am sure all of your other best friends will understand.
What if I am already on the Cure or Bust Team?
You can still donate the $25 and get in on this deal.
What if it rains?
Dress for the weather that day. If it rains–bring an umbrella or plan to get wet. The sessions will take place in sun, rain, snow–all real possibilities in April in Syracuse.
What if I can’t come on those dates?
I will be sad to miss you, but you can still donate to a good cause. I will send you a super nice thank you note. Even better, if I photographed your family in the past year or two and you donate to my page I will send you an “artist choice” 8×10 from your session with my thank you note. So–even out of town folks can donate.
What if I don’t know you?
Perfect! You do not have to know me, or to have had me photograph you in the past to be a part of this. I would love to see former or current clients come with their best friend, but I would also love to meet some new folks.
So, please please please help me out with this. I hope you think that it is a great deal. Once I have thirty people signed up I will update this blog.
I forced the team leader of my Race for the Cure team, AnnMarie to grab one of her best friends for a few shots. These two had no time to prepare and were very good sports.

I will grab a few head shots as well during our mini session if you like.

Your best friend can be your pet and I’ll get their head shot as well.

Or, let your child get a photograph with their best friend.

Maybe your best friend is your grandpa?

I can’t wait to see what we come up with! Thank you so much.

Hey Genevieve,
Seems like your are doing great! I love your idea.
I know I have read the blog, but I am planning on coming up to Manlius after your dates…..
Would you be able to extend it to either April 22nd or 23rd?
If you are willing to I will give more than the donation asked
Let me know.
Take care,
Coralie

Hi Genevieve,
I absolutely love the photos you’ve taken of Anne Marie & her family. I would like to have a picture taken of my sister & me. Anytime but the last date. What a great idea!
Thank you,
Kristin

Genevieve – this is a fantastic way for you to give your talents to a great cause. I am the Race Director of the CNY Race for the Cure and I would love to have a photo of me and my best friend taken. Alas, the only day that works for us is April 5th. Is that still open?
Thank You…

[...] You may remember hearing me talk about Annmarie before on the blog. She has a huge Race for the Cure team, and two years ago I did a fundraiser to help this team–and you all really came through during my best friend portrait sessions. Look back here to remember. http://genphotos.com/blog/?p=4820 [...]
